News: Galaxy S8+ Battery Life Is Very Good, but Not Better Than iPhone 7 Plus
The Samsung Galaxy S8+ isn't yet available for consumers to buy, but that isn't stopping tech reviewers from discovering what the phone is capable of. Turns out, the S8+ has a good battery—just not as good as the iPhone 7 Plus.PhoneArena released the results of their battery testing today, and they are more than impressive. PhoneArena tests all phones in the same manner, with the display on and set to 200 nits, which they claim resembles a comfortable brightness for indoor use. It is important to specify PhoneArena tested the S8+ on the default resolution of Full HD+ (2,220 x 1,080), not Quad HD+ (2,960 x 1,440), which would presumably have a big battery life effect on the S8+.The battery on the S8+, based on these limits, lasts for a solid eight hours. Compare that to the S7 and S7 Edge, which tested at six hours and 37 minutes, and seven hours and 18 minutes, respectively. The S7 contains a 3,000 mAh battery with with a 5.1 inch display, and the S7 Edge has a 3,600 mAh battery with a 5.5 inch display, both at a 16:9 aspect ratio.Samsung, it seems, has improved on more than just screen size with the S8+. A 3,500 mAh battery powers the phone's new 6.2-inch "Infinity Display" at a resolution of 2,960 x 1,440 (although tested at 2,220 x 1,080) and the new 18.5:9 aspect ratio. With a screen area of 15.12 inches, it is much larger than the S7 Edge's display, which measures 12.96 square inches. It's impressive the S8+ manages to have a longer battery life than the Edge, with both a larger display, and a slightly smaller battery.Of course, the S8+'s display is more impressive in person than on paper—it covers nearly the entire front side of the phone and curves around its edges.Don't Miss: How to Get the Galaxy S8's Rounded Display Corners on Any AndroidHowever, when stacked against the iPhone 7 Plus, Samsung falls short. The 7 Plus lasted for nine hours and 5 minutes, over an hour longer than the S8+. What makes this even more interesting is Apple's phone has a smaller battery than Samsung's, 2,900 mAh compared to 3,500 mAh. Ouch. Image by KÄrlis DambrÄns/Flickr Of course, the phones are completely different. The battery in the iPhone doesn't have to power an Infinity Display, or power the powerful Exynos 8895 chip that PhoneArena's S8+ has inside. Plus, Apple's software is fine-tuned to utilize less power so a smaller battery will fit inside. Still, the S8+ and the iPhone 7 Plus outlasted the other phones on PhoneArena's list, none of which has the display or the chip to answer for. It's probably safe to say both of these phone have excellent battery life. One area the S8+ (among other phones) bests the iPhone in is recharge time. The S8+ has what's known as "Fast Adaptive Charging," which allows the phone to fully charge in 100 minutes. Compare that to the iPhone, without fast charging technology, and you won't see 100% until after almost 200 minutes.Another feature the S8+ has is Quick Charge, which gives the phone 5 hours of battery use after only 15 minutes of charging, including wirelessly. Fast Adaptive Charging requires the proper Samsung charger, while Quick Charge requires its own Quick Charge cable. The S8+ may be an hour behind the iPhone in battery life, but Samsung fans can sleep well knowing their phone will charge almost twice as fast as Apple's.Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Android Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow Apple Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

To provide good graphical qualities on devices with different pixel densities, you should provide multiple versions of each bitmap in your app—one for each density bucket, at a corresponding resolution. Otherwise, Android must scale your bitmap so it occupies the same visible space on each screen, resulting in scaling artifacts such as blurring.
