News: All the Latest Leaks & Rumors on the Galaxy S10
Update: The new Galaxy phones are now official! Check out all the details on the Galaxy S10 and S10+ or the Galaxy S10e.The Galaxy S9 didn't even hit shelves before fans were already musing about its followup. It's no secret Samsung's newest device, as impressive as it is, is little more than an upgrade to last year's S8. As a result, excitement has begun brewing for what Samsung has in store as it marks the Galaxy's 10th anniversary.Samsung's 2019 flagship will undoubtedly make a huge splash when it finally makes its debut, and will all but certainly be a considerable upgrade over the stopgap that is the S9. With its unveiling just around the corner, the trickle of leaks and rumors have given way to a flood of information that's served to to feed our excitement. So, without further ado, here's what we know so far about the S9's successor.
Announcement & ReleaseAs a flagship that celebrates the Galaxy line's 10th anniversary, Samsung will hold an exclusive event like it did for the S8. And that day may finally be upon us, as it's widely expected that the Galaxy S10 line of flagship phones will be formally announced during Samsung's UNPACKED event being held in San Francisco on February 20, 2019 at 2:00 EST.
Up to 4 Different ModelsIf recent leaks are to be believed, Samsung may follow in Apple's footsteps and release three distinct S10 models of varying specs and price points. According to ETNews out of Korea, Samsung is busy developing three variants of its secret Beyond flagship — aptly named "Beyond 0," "Beyond 1," and "Beyond 2."Taking a page from its S6 and S7 playbooks, Beyond 0 is slated to be the most affordable of the three variants, and will feature a flat 5.8" display panel as opposed to the curved 5.8" and 6.2" displays found on the Beyond 1 and 2. Given Samsung's history with flagship variants, it's safe to assume that unlike the upcoming entry-level iPhone XR, the S10/Beyond 0 variant will sport an OLED display. And there's more, as Ice Universe reports that Samsung is planning on building another S10 variant with 5G connectivity, in anticipation of the newest cellular technology, and dubbed this model "Beyond X". This would place Samsung's next flagship in a new category for speed. SamMobile goes on further, and reports that Samsung and Verizon may be working together to finally introduce 5G to the masses starting with the S10.As exciting as the potential of a 5G-capable S10 variant is, news has recently surfaced which casts doubt on whether it'll be released. The folks over at TechieRide have uncovered Russian documents which appear to certify Samsung's upcoming flagships. There's bad news, however, as it lists only three devices — SM-G970F, SM-G973F, and SM-G975F — for formal certification. Interestingly, SamMobile reported the same three models receiving certification in China back in OctoberTherefore, it's safe to assume that the missing S10 variant is likely to be the 5G-capable Beyond X, due to it's highly advanced features that just aren't quite ready for the mass market. After all, 5G has yet to be formally implemented in any significant capacity, so it doesn't make sense to release a 5G device when the service itself is still in its infancy stage.

Potential Triple Camera SystemHuawei's P20 Pro has turned the arms race for more advanced cameras up a notch with the introduction of a third rear camera sensor, and Samsung will likely follow suit when it rolls out its Galaxy flagships next year. According to The Investor, KB Securities analyst Kim Dong-won predicts that the Galaxy S10 will sport three rear-facing cameras. Three-camera setup as found on the P20 Pro. Image by Roland Quandt/Twitter If this rumor proves to be true, however, only the priciest S10 variant will employ the advanced triple-camera system. According to Korean site The Bell, the triple-camera setup will only be available to the Galaxy S10+, and will consist of a super wide-angle 16 MP camera, a 13 MP telephoto lens, and a primary 12 MP camera. The entry-level S10 and standard S10 will both be equipped with dual-cameras.Interestingly, The Bell — along with the Wall Street Journal — goes on further and claims that the 5G-capable model of the S10 will sport a rear shooter made up of four camera modules to set it completely apart from the rest of the lineup. Unfortunately, this variant will only be available in limited quantities according to the site, largely due to lack of widespread 5G adoption at the outset.Samsung's move makes sense as the industry is clearly trending in that direction. As a reference, we can take a look at the P20 Pro's rear camera setup, which is comprised of a 40 MP main and 8 MP supporting sensor, along with a 20 MP monochrome sensor for enhanced sharpness and contrast. Tap on the link below for a more detailed breakdown.Full Rundown: Here's How the P20 Pro's Advanced Triple Camera System Works
3D Facial RecognitionAccording to Korean news source The Bell, an Israeli startup is building 3D camera technology for the S10. Mantis Vision is reportedly working with a company called Namuga to develop the camera, which is expected to be utilized for both face recognition and augmented reality. This would make sense — one of Apple's biggest advantages right now is in its TrueDepth 3D camera technology, which uses 30,000 IR beams to read and analyze your face. Its Animoji is objectively superior to the S9's AR Emoji, which critics seem to find stuttery and, on occasion, creepy.Don't Miss: How to Make an AR Emoji With the Galaxy S9

In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Finally ArrivingThe Galaxy S10 may finally bring the much sought after screen-embedded fingerprint sensor to the mainstream. According to ETNews from Korea, Samsung has more or less confirmed the feature's presence in its 2019 flagships. The reports goes on to claim that Qualcomm may be tasked with supplying the sensors for use on the S10.In addition, the leak also suggests that Samsung will utilize ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, which are able to accurately read fingerprints by transmitting ultrasonic pulses against the finger to map out all the nooks and crannies unique to each fingerprint. This method is significantly more accurate than optical sensors that rely on visual mapping which limit its ability to reproduce fingerprints in full 3D.And while earlier rumors suggested that the feature will only be available on the higher-end S10 variants with curved displays, a recent report by SamMobile reveals that all three S10 models will come standard with in-display fingerprint sensors. While this earlier leak suggested that the upper-tier S10 variants with curved OLED displays will utilize the more advanced (and expensive) ultrasonic sensors, with the flat-screened entry model S10 featuring the less accurate optical fingerprint sensor to keep production costs down, ETNews suggests otherwise. The Korean site claims that all three S10 models will in fact feature the more accurate ultrasonic sensors. To add further meat to this rumor, Ice Universe has recently reported that Samsung just showed off a crop of new technologies in a private event — chief among them being Fingerprint on Display, or FoD, for short. Forbes follows up and speculates that the S10 will most likely have ultrasonic sensors. A sneak peak at the features the S10 will bring to the table. Image by Ice Universe/Twitter
Iris Sensor Will Be DitchedWith the high likelihood of both an advanced in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and facial recognition technology arriving with the Galaxy S10, it only makes sense for Samsung to abandon the iris scanner first introduced on the Note 7, and this may very well be the case. According to Korean site The Bell, Samsung will stop implementing iris scanning technology on future flagships, starting with the S10.The site reports that Samsung has conspicuously not made any attempts to order hardware modules related to iris scanning from any vendors it has relied on in the past. Interestingly, famed Samsung Leaker Ice Universe has recently backed up this claim, tweeting that the new fingerprint sensors "will replace" the iris scanner.

Notch-Less Display All but ConfirmedThe notch has come to dominate smartphone design beginning with the iPhone X, and has since been copied by numerous phones like the OnePlus 6. Samsung may aim to buck this trend, however, as they're busy perfecting a tech that may do away with the need for a notch. As BGR reports, Samsung has unveiled a new OLED panel that uses "Sound on display" technology to turn the screen into a speaker.Samsung may implement this novel feature into the upcoming Galaxy S10 to avoid the notched display entirely for a more streamlined, aesthetically pleasing design. To further support this claim. ETNews from Korea reports that Samsung and LG both plan to launch devices featuring displays that double as speakers in the first half of 2019 — lining up perfectly with S-series release dates.A new report goes on to further solidify this claim. According to Ice Universe, Samsung recently showcased tech they call "Sound on Display" to do away with the unsightly notch that's come to plague the smartphone industry. Dubbed SoD for short, if it's included in the S10, the new flagship will completely do away with traditional speakers and use the display itself to transmit sound.Tantalizingly, new leaks have emerged that cements Samsung's notch-less approach for its upcoming flagships, this time centering around how it handles the front camera. Among the latest and most notable of these rumors comes by way of Evan Blass, who tweeted an image which he claims to have sourced from a reputable case maker. As seen below, the image pretty much speaks for itself. Image by Evan Blass/Twitter

A Truly Bezel-Less DesignThanks to a screen-embedded fingerprint sensor and ear speaker, along with small ports for the front camera sensors, Samsung may be the closest yet in achieving an almost all-screen design. Surprisingly, we don't need to look very far if we want to get a glimpse of how the S10 will look, as Samsung has recently unveiled a smartphone with similar characteristics. The Samsung Galaxy A8s features the new Infinity-O display, which uses a small circular cutout for the front camera. Not only does this provide and excellent workaround to steer clear from having to implement a notch, it also paves the way for even thinner bezels, as seen below. Image via Samsung To further add teeth to this claim, Ice Universe has uncovered a benchmark for Samsung Browser 9.0, which was performed on a device listed as SM-405F. In the past, Samsung has used similarly coded labels to conceal upcoming Galaxy devices during their testing phase. As such, SM-405F could very well be the upcoming S10 being put through its paces. If that weren't interesting enough, Ice Universe points us towards the device's "Screen size," which is 412 x 869 pixels, or an aspect ratio of 19:9. So, if the device in question is indeed the Galaxy S10, this means the upcoming flagships will utilize even more screen space as compared to the standard 18.5:9 aspect ratio currently found on the S9 and S9+, which equates to even thinner bezels than before. Image by Ice Universe/Twitter Ice Universe has recently doused gasoline on this fiery rumor, and has confirmed that Samsung has been working on UPS — or Under Panel Sensors — within its display assemblies to completely do away with unsightly notches for a truly bezel-less design. To add another piece to the puzzle, AllAboutSamsung reports that the up coming flagships will have a screen-to-body ratio of 93.4%.And Ice Universe's speculations regarding the S10's bezel-less design doesn't end there, as he's uncovered a major clue within Android Pie (Samsung Experience 10) itself. In it he's discovered a demo image for the new Night Theme feature showing a device with completely uniform borders along the display, which hints at a device that won't utilize any notches for a symmetrical, almost bezel-less screen. The implications are truly enormous, as the S10 could be the first handset to feature "invisible" sensors that will "sense through" the superimposed display, and leave an ample amount of room for designers and engineers to bring a notch-less smartphone to fruition.

Incredibly High ResolutionSamsung's Galaxy devices have always represented the cutting edge in screen technology, and their tenth anniversary flagship may set this bar at an all time high if a rumor proves to be true. According to famed leaker Ice Universe, the S10 will feature an OLED display with an astounding resolution of more than 600 pixels per inch (ppi) — 13% more dense than the S9's 529 ppi.
A Rival to 3D TouchIf a recent leak turns out to be true, Android will finally have an answer to the iPhone's venerable 3D Touch technology that replicated physical button interaction by way of haptic feedback. Unlike 3D Touch, however, Ice Universe will employ the novel HoD — short for Haptics on Display — technology which use the S10's display itself to transmit haptic feedback, doing away with the traditional haptic motor.

S10+ to Feature Dual Front-Facing CamerasIf recent leaks turn out to be true, the highest-tier S10 variant may utilize dual cameras for its front-facing shooter, similar to what's found on the Samsung Galaxy A8. According to The Bell, the 6.2" S10+ will feature a front-facing camera setup consisting of a primary camera sensor that's complimented by a secondary telephoto sensor to give it the ability to take selfies in unprecedented detail and clarity. The dual-camera setup will also enable the S10+ to take portrait shots featuring a blurred background, giving selfies that highly sought-after "Bokeh" effect that's growing in popularity. Currently, there are no specifics regarding the front-facing cameras' resolution, but we can expect it to be more advanced than the dual 16 MP and 8 MP setup found on the Galaxy A8. Front Camera Will Have Its Own Gestures & AnimationAs is evident on the Galaxy A8s, Samsung has added some nifty features into the device's front camera to enhance user-friendliness. There's an animated ring that glows when changing camera modes, and the front camera can be quickly accessed from the lock screen simply by swiping down on the sensor itself.According to GSMArena, the upcoming S10 flagships will likely utilize the same features for their front shooters, and may even come with extra functionality such as custom animations for facial recognition. Snapdragon 855 Under the HoodWinFuture's Roland Quandt claims Qualcomm is working on the Snapdragon 855, which he believes will be 7nm, 3nm smaller than the current 845 SoC. If that proves to be the case, it's safe to assume this SoC will come standard with the US Variant, as more powerful Exynos-based Galaxy flagships have traditionally been reserved for markets outside of the United States. While we're on the topic, rumor has it Samsung is developing an AI-powered chip similar to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro's NPU (neural network processing unit). The hope here would be to see a more intelligent chipset that uses machine learning to allow the S10 to perform much faster and smarter than the S9.

More Powerful MemoryIf a new leak is to be believed, the S10 will mark a significant upgrade over the S9's RAM and flash storage capabilities. According to noted leaker Ice Universe, Samsung's upcoming flagship will come equipped with beefed up LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage, giving it a boost in performance to further compete with whatever Apple has to offer. Image by Ice Universe/Twitter To put it into perspective, the Galaxy S9's LPDDR4 and UFS 2.1 flash storage and are among the fastest memory chips currently out, giving the iPhone X a run for its money in terms of speed tests. The S10's upgraded memory will make it a whole lot snappier, thanks to more powerful memory modules that effectively double its bandwidth.Along with the increase in speed, the flagship's upgraded memory is set to consume less power and run more efficiently even at higher temperatures, which will result in noticeable improvements in terms of streaming media and gaming experience, to name a few.Without a doubt, the Galaxy S10 is set to make its mark on the mobile industry when it finally touches down in 2019. But before it does, we're left to speculate about it using what little information we have. Fortunately, more details will inevitably bubble to the surface as its arrival draws near, so check back regularly.
S10 Vatiant with 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of Storage RumoredAs incredible as it sounds, there is a chance that Samsung may break new ground with the release of the Galaxy S10 by offering a variant that'll significantly raise the bar in terms of RAM and internal storage. And if this rumor comes to pass, it'll undoubtedly leave major OEMs like Google and Apple scrambling to catch up in the never ending race to ever higher RAM and internal storage capacity.GizChina reports that, according to Chinese market analysis and research firm GF Securities, one of the Galaxy S10 variants will come with a whopping 12GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, though it doesn't get into specifics as to which model will have this impressive configuration. Based on current trends, however, if this rumor turns out to be true, either the S10+ or the 5G-capable S10 will off this option due to their top-tier status.

Ceramic ProtectionIf SamMobile's hunch turns out to be true, the S10 will be the first Galaxy flagship to utilize ceramic rear panels, or at least one of its variants will be. The site reports that the 5G-capable model of the S10 will come equipped with this highly durable material and be finished in either black or white.Of course, employing a ceramic rear panel on a premium handset is nothing new, as evidenced by flagships like the Essential PH-1. If a world-famous brand like Samsung formally adopts the feature, however, this design element will make its way to mainstream and become a more viable alternative to glass-based rear panels. Image by GregglesTV/YouTube
3.5 mm Headphone Jack May Finally Be DitchedStarting with Apple, companies like HTC have left out the traditional headphone jack from their flagships, much to the chagrin of audiophiles. Only LG and Samsung have so far resisted the trend, but if a new rumor turns out to be true, it seems that the latter may also finally cave in. According to SamMobile, Samsung has produced a prototype for the upcoming S10 with no headphone jack. While the existence of a jack-less prototype indicates the company is thoroughly looking into this matter to see what the best course of action is, we shouldn't immediately jump to conclusions, as there is no firm evidence that Samsung will in fact ditch the feature. What's clear, however, is that the option is on the table, so we'll be sure to update you with any news regarding this topic if anything more concrete emerges.
Ever Larger BatteriesIf a new leak proves true, the largest Galaxy S10 variant will push the boundaries of battery capacity which will surely have the competition playing catch-up. According to WinFuture, the S10+ will come standard with an impressive 4,100 mAh battery, beating out the iPhone XS Max's 3174 mAh battery by a fair margin. The site also reports that the S10E and S10 will have 3100 and 3400 mAh batteries, respectively.Of course, Samsung is by no means the first to employ such a large battery for its flagship phones, as other handsets like the Huawei Mate 20 which features an incredible 4,200 mAh battery are coming out well in advance of the S10.

Reverse Wireless Charging LikelyWireless charging is a pretty well established feature among flagship devices, but if new rumors are to be believed, the upcoming Galaxy S10 will take this feature up a notch to further set it apart from the rest of the crowd. WinFuture has posted an image of wireless earbuds made for the Galaxy S10+. That's not the interesting part however, as the image seems to highlight the flagships' reverse-wireless charging functionality. Image by GregglesTV/YouTube
Pricing: Start Saving NowAs Samsung's flagship, you can expect the upcoming S10 line to put a sizable dent in your wallet. While we don't have anything concrete with regards to pricing, we now have reasonable estimates thanks to some noteworthy leaks. As to be expected, prices for the flagship will vary between variants, with the entry level S10 being the cheapest and the S10+ being the most expensive.Gizmodo reports that the pricing for the Galaxy S10 will start out at around £670 ($840) for the S10E, £800 ($1,007) and £1,000 ($1,260) for the 128 and 512 GB variant, respectively, for the mid-level S10. The S10+ will be the priciest model of all, and will cost you about £900 ($1,133) for the 128 GB model, £1,100 ($1,385) for 512 GB, and a whopping £1,400 ($1,762) for the 1 TB variant of the S10+.WinFuture's estimates for Samsung's flagship line is also right around Gizmodo's reported price range. According to the site, the S10E will retail around €749 ($849), while the S10 will go between €899 ($1,019) and €1149 ($1,300) for the 128 and 512 GB versions, respectively. The S10+ will cost between €999 ($1,130), €1249 ($1415), and €1499 ($1699) for the 128 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB variants, again respectively. The dollar numbers we listed here are direct conversions and don't account for higher European import tariffs, so they may be a good 10% lower in the US.Don't Miss: Everything You Need to Know About the Samsung Galaxy S9Follow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: Get the Android L Launcher on Your Nexus 5 or Other KitKat Device

How To: Get the Android L Launcher on Your Nexus 5 or Other KitKat Device
As Matias Duarte and the team over at Google's Android Design department ready their wares, they've given us a preview version of the upcoming "L" release of Android to try out.A new design philosophy, dubbed "Material", permeates throughout the new OS. Most apps have yet to be updated to include this design language, but the Google Now Launcher has already received a touch of these new design elements.Normally, you'd have to install Android L to get the underlying framework to actually see these changes. But developer Alexander Schulz has updated his ever-popular Xposed module, Xposed GEL Settings, to allow us to enjoy these slight UI changes on KitKat. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
PrerequisitesYour device must be rooted. Check out my rooting guide for the Nexus 5 to get it done in just a few minutes, if you haven't already. This also works on any other rooted Android device running 4.4 and higher. After rooting, make sure you install the Xposed Framework, which allows you to run a bunch of cool mods. In order to install the Xposed mod, you will also need to enable Unknown Sources on your device. Lastly, you'll need the Google Now Launcher. On the Nexus 5, it's the stock home screen app, so you don't need to download it—only other devices need to.

Step 1: Install Xposed GEL SettingsSchulz's module is available for free on Google Play. You can either search your Play Store app for Xposed GEL Settings, or you can tap this link from your device to get it installed. When you've got the app installed, you'll get a notification from Xposed that tells you the module included with this app needs to be activated. Tap the Activate and Reboot button here, and Xposed will take care of the rest for you.

Step 2: Configure XGELSWhen your phone finishes booting back up, go ahead and jump right into Xposed GEL Settings from your app drawer. There are a lot of other settings in here for customizing the Google Now Launcher—some of which we've covered in the past—but we're only concerned with one option for today's purposes.Swipe in from the left edge of your screen to reveal the side navigation menu in XGELS. From here, head to the General section. The second menu entry in this section is the one we want—L Launcher Design. Toggle that to On, then you'll get a message from XGELS letting you know that the module can restart your launcher automatically so that the changes can take effect. Tick the box next to Don't show again and press Got it. Now, if you head to your home screen, you can already see the Material Design characteristics in place. The app drawer button has the new style, and folder icons are now centered rather than offset. (1) KitKat design. (2) "L" design. Long-press any open space on your home screen, and you'll see that the Settings menu is a bit different as well. Even transition animations have received the "L" treatment. (1) KitKat design. (2) "L" design. Although not in its final form, it's good to see that the Google Now Launcher is receiving attention from Android's design department. How are you liking these "Material" touches? Have you tried out the new Calculator and SystemUI tweaks from "L"? Let us know in the comments section below.

I couldn't be more excited. I don't know when the one plus community became like this. I laugh at the thought of apple customers being this critical.

News: LG G7 ThinQ Comes Packed with Notch, Super Bright Display, Impressive Sound & More

After delaying its launch by four months, LG revealed its 2018 entry to the flagship market on Wednesday, May 2. After years of an underperforming mobile division, the LG G7 ThinQ is the first product since a shakeup within the division to get things back on track, and it brings a number of upgrades over its G6 predecessor.Rumor has it that LG delayed the G7 ThinQ's Mobile World Congress announcement after CEO Jo Seong-jin sent the phone back to the drawing board. While LG did offer a rebuttal to this leak, they didn't outright refute it, and the delay is still telling. While its revision is as monumental as we believed, the changes should help it better compete with other flagship Android phones if marketed well enough. Image by Marques Brownlee/YouTube

6.1-Inch FullVision Super Bright Display with 1,000 NitsAvoiding the negative press of using its POLED panel again, the LG G7 ThinQ's display will stick with an LCD panel enhanced with its technology known as Super Bright Display. This panel is a variation of IPS LCD and will come with improvements that should remove the automatic disappointment when a flagship uses anything but an AMOLED display. Check out the link below for everything we know about the new display.More Info: Why G7's New Super Bright Display Is Actually a Game-Changer Image by The Verge/YouTube
Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 + Adreno 630Just like almost every company releasing a flagship Android device in 2018 (except Huawei), LG's G7's core is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. The latest system-on-chip (SoC) from Qualcomm is an eight-core monster with four cores running at 2.8 GHz and the remaining four running at 1.77 GHz. Using this setup, the SoC balances power with efficiency, handling whatever task sent its way.Additionally, for our mobile gamers, the G7 comes with an Adreno 630 GPU, great for all the latest games including PUBG mobile and Fortnite (when it eventually comes to Android).Don't Miss: Gaming Guides for Android & iPhone Owners

Dual 16 MP Rear Cameras + 8 MP Front CameraThe camera has also received an upgrade from last year's G6. The G7 ThinQ will use a 16 MP Sony IMX351 sensor for its primary lens, the same lens found in the LG V30. These lenses will have optical image stabilization (OIS), an aperture of f/1.6, and an angle of 70 degrees. The second 16 MP rear camera will have the same image sensor, with a wide-angle lens (107 degrees) with an aperture of f/1.9. The front camera will be 8 MP with a 90-degree angle. Image by The Verge/YouTube The G7 ThinQ will borrow a new camera mode from the V30S ThinQ called "Bright Mode," which combines four pixels into one big pixel (using pixel binning) to improve the quality of photos taken in low-light situations. AI CamLike the LG V30S ThinQ (which was released earlier this year), the G7 takes up the new ThinQ branding — which indicates the use of AI (specifically machine learning) to enhance the phone's software features. Similar to the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, LG has used the power of machine learning to improve the performance and usability of several features, namely the camera and voice assistant.Known as AI Cam, the G7 ThinQ's camera is able to detect the objects, scenes, and people in the viewfinder and make suggestions for settings to take the best picture. Just like Huawei Mate 10, LG worked with EyeEm to "teach" the phone what scenes to recognize. The result is 18 different scenes it can understand. When using this mode, you can see the phone "think" as it recognizes the things in the photo (it currently identifies 1,162 discrete objects). The name of the object will temporarily display on the viewfinder (known as QTags) which it uses to decipher the scene and recommend settings. All in all, this should improve the photos taken by many of us who still use auto mode to take pictures. Image by Engadget/YouTube Don't Miss: The LG V30S ThinQ Is a V30 with Software Updates & Weird Name

A Better Google AssisstantThe second major component of the ThinQ branding will be improvements to the voice assistant, known as Voice AI. Instead of creating their own assistant like Samsungs' Bixby, LG added exclusive Google Assistant commands to improve the experience. According to XDA, the G7 ThinQ will share many of the same commands as the V30S ThinQ for a total of 32.LG is also really pushing its customers to use the Assistant. It is the first phone with a dedicated button to launch Google Assistant (which isn't remappable). On the left side of the phone, below the volume rocker, there's a hardware button to call the assistant. According to Engadget, the button offers three input modes: one click for voice input, press-and-hold to talk to Google Assistant (similarly to using a walkie-talkie), and double-click for visual recognition. Image by LG/YouTube Additionally, the G7 ThinQ includes "Super Far-Field Voice Recognition." This feature uses the dual microphone to detect your voice up to 16 feet away, even in noisy areas. Image by LG/YouTube

A Hideable Display NotchKnown as the "New Second Screen" in Settings, LG G7 ThinQ is following the 2018 Android trend of including a display notch. Love it or hate it, this will probably be the determining factor for many potential customers on whether they should purchase this device.Like the Huawei P20, LG does include customization options including the ability to hide the notch altogether similar to (Nacho Notch's implementation. However, LG does add the ability to change the color of the screen around the notch to add some flavor (although these don't hide it). Image by Marques Brownlee/YouTube

'Boombox' Speakers & Headphone JackStereo speakers are making their way to the LG G7 ThinQ with something known as "Boombox Speakers," which uses resonance to amplify the sound. Because sound operates by vibration, LG is bouncing audio signals internally that will increase the sounds externally. LG also increased the size of the speaker unit by 39 percent. According to LG (via Engadget), this should translate to a 15- to 20-decibel improvement. Image by LG/YouTube Standing on the lonely mountain, the G7 ThinQ will once again be one of the few phones to include a 3.5 mm headphone jack. And like it has in previous years, it will once again be enhancing via a Hi-Fi Quad DAC. The new DAC, the ESS Sabre ES9218, has four digital-to-analog audio converters which improve sound accuracy. According to LG, the new DAC offers clearer sound than its predecessor, while reducing distortions and ambient noise. The G7 will also support MQA format, the popular Hi-Fi audio file format used by Tidal to provide lossless audio as heard by the artist in the studio.LG G7 ThinQ will also support DTS:X 3D Surround Sound, a first for smartphones. This feature recreates 3D surround sound audio in non-surround systems such as headphones. Your handheld movie watching experience should be a whole lot better with the G7 ThinQ as now you can enjoy 7.1 surround sound recreated in your headphones.

A Dedicated Home Button, IP68 Rating & Wireless ChargingUndoing the traditional setup of a fingerprint scanner doubling as a home button, the G7 ThinQ will finally separate this functionality. Citing fans' complaints about sensitive touches (which I completely agree with), the G7 ThinQ will be one of the first LG G series devices in years to have its home button along the right edge of the phone. Image by SuperSaf TV/YouTube Like the V30, LG G7 ThinQ will include the IP68 rating and is MIL-STD 810G compliant. These ratings indicate this device will be durable, able to withstand most elements. Additionally, the glass back and wireless charging will return for those who can't live with it.The battery life will be heavily dependent on the efficiency of the Qualcomm chipset, as the capacity will be a mere 3,000 mAh. For context, the LG V30 and G6 had a 3,300 mAh battery. It's a questionable move seeing how the thickness of the phones is same as its predecessor. However, since the G6 was using a 2016 chipset last year, expect a noticeable improvement in battery life over its predecessor. The phone also supports Quick Charge 3.0, for faster recharging times.

Price & AvailabilityLG didn't state the exact release date, limiting their response to only "in the coming days" for South Korea. US (along with Europe, South America, and Asia) should receive it shortly after. According to SlashGear, preorders for most US carriers will be around May 24 or 25, with an expected release of June 1. Hopefully, LG does a better job of delivering the device quickly, unlike the heavily delayed V30 which took about two months to reach US shores. While Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular have all announced either specific (or relative) release date, AT&T has confirmed they won't carry the new device as they will be the only carrier for another LG device later this year. That said, customers can still opt to buy the unlocked G7 ThinQ and use it on AT&T's network.According to AndroidHeadlines, the rumored AT&T device is the LG V35 ThinQ, the minor upgrade from last year's V30. It should drop this summer, so AT&T is trying to maximize its sales by forgoing a carrying a carrier-branded version of the G7 ThinQ.LG didn't mention pricing for the new phone during their event on May 2, but according to SlashGear, the unlocked version should be in line with the G6 pricing from last year. Since the G6 debuted at $650, expect pricing to be around $700. The LG G7 ThinQ will come in the following colors: Aurora Black, Platinum Grey, Moroccan Blue, and Raspberry Rose. Image by SuperSaf TV/YouTube With these specs, 2018 is shaping up to be a great year for LG customers. If you decided against jumping on the Samsung Galaxy S9, it might be worth checking out the LG G7 ThinQ. Depending on pricing, this could be formidable competitor offering great specs with little compromises. Let us know in the comments below if you are excited about LG's next offering.

How To: Get Live FM Radio on Your Galaxy S8 or S8+
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ come equipped with all of the hardware needed to access live FM radio, but this feature was never really advertised or even spoken about. Thankfully, though, all you need is an app to enable it.Samsung's using two different processors to power the S8 — the overseas variants use an Exynos chip, while the North American models use a Snapdragon SoC. Only the Snapdragon S8 variants are equipped with an FM receiver chip, which may explain why Samsung hasn't advertised the feature, but also means that US-based users can listen to live FM radio. The only trouble is, the Snapdragon variant doesn't come with instructions or a stock app allowing you to use the FM tuner. But to get it working, all you need is an FM radio app and a pair of headphones (the AKG-tuned Samsung earbuds that came with your phone will work just fine), so let's check out all the details below.Don't Miss: 10 Galaxy S8 Features You Need to Know About

Step 1: Download NextRadioTo start off, you'll want to download an app called NextRadio Free Live FM Radio onto your Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S8 or S8+. It's free to install, so go ahead and tap on the link below from your phone to open up the Play Store download page.Install NextRadio for free from the Google Play Store

Step 2: Set Up NextRadio & Connect Your HeadphonesNext, go ahead and open the app. NextRadio will ask for location permissions as well as your ZIP code, and once it has those, you'll get the opportunity to select your favorite local radio stations. From there, connect any pair of wired headphones (they'll be used as an antenna), and you'll be all set to listen to live FM radio. Yep, it's really that easy — which makes one wonder why Samsung didn't include a stock radio app like many other OEMs. Do you have any theories on why Samsung basically hid this feature away? If so, let us know in the comment section below.Don't Miss: The Safest Way to Disable All Bloatware on Your Galaxy S8 or S8+Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, and Instagram Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

How To: The Easiest Way to Discover New Music on Your Phone

Resources for finding new music are at our disposal in all corners of the internet; the only problem is deciding which one is the best for you. Spotify, Pandora, and Rdio all have options to discover new music on your smartphone, but they tend to expose mostly established artists, making the process of finding lesser-known but good music a game of trial and error.Through an extensive catalogue of indie artists, Choosic helps you discover songs that would otherwise be difficult to stumble upon using other music streaming services. And thanks to Tinder-like gestures, finding some awesome music is just a swipe away.install Choosic from the iOS App Store for free on iOS 7.1 or higher Install Choosic from the Google Play Store for Android 4.0.3 or higher
Once you log in with Facebook and select a few genres for the type of music you want to discover, Choosic will pull up new, popular, and trending music from across the internet, all curated by actual music bloggers. On the Discover page, swipe either left to dislike or right to like so that Choosic learns from your choices. Listening to music is completely free and there are no limits to how much you can swipe, so by all means, go crazy. Access all of the music you like by heading over to Playlists from the side menu. All of your songs will appear in order from top to bottom, with your most recent likes up top. When you play a song from your playlist, music controls will appear at the bottom of the page. Music is streamed directly from SoundCloud, so you can tap the share button at the top right to get a link to go to the specific song's page. You can also share the song on Facebook. After using the app for a bit, I can say that the majority of artists that show up are legitimately "indie." One of the songs I ended up really liking—"Loebe" by Masha—has less than 200 listens on SoundCloud.Just because they're not popular doesn't take away from the quality of the music. You should know that some of the best songs aren't always the ones playing on the radio. Here are some of the other songs I found through Choosic which I really enjoy:"Technicolour Beat (Urban Contact Remix)" by Oh Wonder "Bamboo" by HINDS "Murasaki" by Cheatahs Test out Choosic and let us know what you think, and be sure to share some of the music you discover with us!Follow Gadget Hacks over on Facebook, Google+, and Twitter for more iOS news, apps, and tips.

How To: Read Facebook Messages on a Samsung Galaxy S3Without Your Friends Knowing

I get along with most of my friends just like anyone else. We chat on the phone, go out drinking, and play video games—and we choose who to hang out with and when. That same sort of freedom is hard to find on Facebook.Having to constantly turn off Facebook chat is probably one of my biggest pet peeves. Can't I creep on photos without everyone knowing I'm online! But at least when it comes to my Facebook messages, I can bide my time, read my messages secretly, and reply when I see fit. No more of Facebook revealing that I read a message and guilting me into a reply. Fbook that...With Privy Chat from WasilukApps, I can read over incoming Facebook messages on my Samsung Galaxy S3 without informing the sender. The app is not a giant home run, but does get the job done well enough. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
Step 1: Allow PermissionsI know it seems counterintuitive to allow an app to access all you Facebook information, but let's forget about that and solve our current issue. Once installed, Privy Chat will need access to your Facebook account for viewing messages and chats, so give it up.

Step 2: Sign InOnce signed in, Privy Chat will load you previous messages and start receiving your incoming ones.

Step 3: Check Your MessagesMessages that have been read, and have shown the sender that they have been read, are marked with an open eyeball. Messages in your inbox that have not been read, or shown to the sender to have been read, are marked with a closed eyeball.
What Makes Privy Chat UsefulSo, if you receive a notification for a new Facebook message on your GS3, but aren't sure if you want to respond just yet. You can open up the Privy Chat app and read the message from there. When you go back to the Facebook Mobile app, or even on your desktop, you will still have that unread message. Finally, you can read a message in peace and respond whenever you want—without being suckered into an immediate reply.
Drawbacks of Privy ChatThe obvious drawback is that the application is not ingrained within the Facebook app, but stands alone and requires a lot of back and forth. You can reply to a message from Privy Chat (which will automatically mark the messages as read), but you cannot send messages in group conversation or start new conversations. If you're just looking to have a little peace of mind when reading your messages, then Privy Chat is a nice little quick fix.

How To: Get Circular Folders on Your iPhone's Home Screen

How To: Get Circular Folders on Your iPhone's Home Screen
Aside from changing your wallpaper, there's not much you can do to customize the home screen on your iPhone besides nesting folders, hiding folder names, and hiding apps—and those aren't even actual features. They're simply glitches that Apple never took care of, and now there's another, even cooler one to add to that list.YouTuber videosdebarraquito (famous for glitch-finding) and the folks at heyeased recently uncovered a bug in iOS 9.3 to 9.3.2 that will cause your home screen folders to turn into perfect circles when you set a 3x3 pixel wallpaper. It's incredibly simple, and it will give your iPhone a custom look that no one else has, so read on below to see how it all works.

Step 1: Download a 3x3 WallpaperTo get started, just head to the link below from any iPhone running iOS 9.3 or higher (it's said that 9.3.3 fixes this issue, but it hasn't been released yet, so we'll see). Once you're there, you'll see a series of images (52 in all), so scroll through until you find the one that looks best to you, keeping in mind that this image is going to become your wallpaper. Once you've settled on an image, long-press it, then choose "Save Image."Choose a 3x3 pixel wallpaper to download!

Step 2: Set Your New WallpaperNext up, head to the Wallpaper menu in your iOS device's main Settings, then select the "Camera Roll" option, and choose your 3x3 image from the list. From here, tap "Set," then choose "Set Home Screen" (or "Set Both" if you want this image to be used on your lock screen as well). Alternatively, you could just got to your Camera Roll in the Photos app, select the image, hit the share sheet icon, and choose "Use as Wallpaper."

Step 3: Enjoy Circular FoldersNext, just head to your home screen to check it out—any folders you have will now have perfectly-rounded backgrounds. When you tap one of the folders, you'll still see the regular rounded-square background, but your home screen now has a completely custom look that will surely make your friends jealous. On some devices, not all folders will work perfectly. You may need to move them around on your screen to get the circles to appear correctly, or try a different wallpaper from the list. Also, in our experience, using "Still" works better than "Perspective" when setting the wallpaper.Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Apple Hacks on Facebook and Twitter Follow Android Hacks on Facebook and Twitter Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+

News: Sorry, SE Fans  iPhone SE 2 Won't Have a 4" Display

While Apple usually sets the precedent for its consumers to follow, the iPhone SE returned the company's iconic smartphone to a small form factor, one that had been ditched by the iPhone 6 and beyond. However, it appears Apple is finished with 4-inch phones for good, as the iPhone SE 2 looks to be even larger than last year's iPhone X.The SE 2 has had its fair share of rumors, as all major smartphones do. However, those watching closely will notice it has received far less attention than other iPhones usually do, especially when compared to the iPhones Apple is thought to be releasing this fall.Don't Miss: Here's Everything We Know About the iPhone SE 2 So Far The ugly truth? Apple isn't planning to release an SE 2 in the spring, as it did with the original SE — the SE 2 is coming in the fall, and it's a phone we've heard all about.Yes, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will most likely be our "SE 2." It appears some outlets are referring to it as such, with no consideration that Apple will release an updated 4-inch iPhone instead. Rather, the "cheaper" bezel-less iPhone so rumored about will take its place, offering customers a large iPhone experience without paying the premium prices attached to the OLED iPhone X sequels. Image by KGI Securities/9to5Mac It won't be "cheap," however. Rumors say the 6.1-inch iPhone will run about $799. That might be reasonable if Apple considers this an iPhone 8 Plus replacement, but it's a stark contrast to the SE, which started at only $399.If this rumor is correct, it's an interesting move by Apple. The SE sold well because there was a demand for that particular form factor, not to mention the low price for an iPhone. SE fans are waiting for an update of the same size, so it remains to be seen how many would buy an iPhone with a 2-inch larger display. That's not to say a 4-inch SE 2 is dead in the water. There are still plenty of rumors out there to suggest Apple is still hard at work on a small iPhone refresh. If June passes us by with no SE 2, however, we just might have our answer.Don't Miss: Everything We Know So Far About Apple's Next Big SmartphoneFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: Play Almost Any PSP Game on Your Android Phone

If you really want to play Gran Turismo or Castlevania on the go, Sony's PlayStation Portable is a great way to do it. But it gets harder and harder to justify carrying around a PSP handheld gaming console when you've got an equally powerful Android phone in your pocket already. The PSP had a good 10 years before being discontinued, and your Android can pick up the slack now. There have been numerous PSP emulators available over the years, such as PPSSPP, but the one I find myself coming back to time and time again is UltraPSP by UltraGameEmulators, which is actually based off of PPSSPP. It's one of the most stable PSP emulators I've used so far, and that's reason enough to keep coming back. I've used it on a Samsung Galaxy S6, HTC 10, Pixel, and LG G5 with no issues. Plus, it's free. God of War: Ghost of Sparta on a Pixel. While UltraPSP is no longer available on the Google Play Store, it can still be sideloaded onto your Android phone or tablet. Just download the latest version from APKPure, make sure "Unknown sources" is enabled on your device, if not already, then install it by tapping on the "Download complete" notification, or from any file manager, and following the prompts. If you'd rather use an emulator available on Google Play, there's always PPSSPP.Don't Miss: Play Your Favorite PS4 Games Remotely on Any Android DeviceIf you have your own ISO files for your own PSP game collection, great! If not, you'll also need to install an Android app that will extract RAR, 7Z, ZIP, etc. archive file types, such as the free Easy Unrar, Unzip & Zip utility.
Step 1: Download a Game ROMThere's a legal gray area when it comes to downloading ROMs due copyright and intellectual property issues. As such, we can't link out to any specific ROMs or even to download sites. If you were to google Emuparadise or CoolROM to look up PSP games, though, we certainly wouldn't stop you.Once you've picked a site, look up a game you're interested in playing and download it. Technically, you should have a physical copy of the game you want to play, so proceed with caution. Read the prompts carefully, and make sure you select the right download link on the page. Once it starts downloading, you should see the downloading icon in your status bar, and you can keep track of the download's progress in your notification tray.Once your file has been downloaded, make sure that the file size in your device matches the one that's posted on the site. After that's been verified, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Extract Your Game FileOnce you've downloaded the game, you'll have to extract the RAR, 7Z, ZIP, etc. archive to access the ISO file.Open Easy Unrar. Scroll down and tap on the Download folder. Tap on the archive file for your game to check the box. Tap on the "Extract" button. On the popup, tap the file again to check it yet again. Tap on "Extract" one more time. Once the folder is done extracting, scroll through the files inside to make sure there are no other files that need to be extracted. If you find another archive file, make sure to extract it as well. Once you see the ISO file, you can exit Easy Unrar.

Step 3: Start the GameThe hard part is out of the way, so now it's time to play! Open up UltraPSP, tap on the control pad symbol, then select "Games." Select "the "Home" button, then open your Download folder. Note that you have the option of viewing your selections in a grid or list format. In the larger green boxes (the folders), tap on the game title that you unzipped—not the actual RAR, ZIP, whatever file. In my case, it's Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. If you only had to unzip one archive file, then you should see a cover image of your game title in a folder box. If not, tap on the game folder title again until you see the game's cover image. Once you see the image, just tap on it to start the game.

Step 4: Play! Now just sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. As you can see below, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is working perfectly on my device. The controls will be overlaid on top of the game itself, which is how every other video game console emulator works. It takes some getting used to, but you can always pair a PS4 controller with your phone or tablet if you just can't get the hang of it.Don't Miss: How to Connect Your PS4 Controller to Your Android Device for Easier Gameplay Time to slay some monsters...Well, after I waste 15 minutes trying to come up with a super cool name. To give you an idea of how well this works, here are a few other games working on other Android devices using the UltraPSP PSP emulator. Not all PSP games will be able to work on UltraPSP, just as they would not be able to work on PPSSPP. Some are just not compatible, so if one doesn't work, don't be discouraged—try another.
