News: Samsung Galaxy S7 Surpasses Expectations with 55 Million Sold & Counting
The good news keeps on coming for Samsung! According to the market research firm Strategy Analytics, the Korean giant sold a whopping 7.2 million Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones in the first quarter of this year. That totals 55 million of the company's flagship smartphones sold since their launch in March 2016.From January to March, Samsung sold 92.8 million handsets, 80 million of which were smartphones. They even managed to retain 23 percent of the global smartphone market, according to the firm. That news may come as a surprise for some, considering the Galaxy Note 7 debacle last year. But Gadget Hacks previously reported that their quarterly forecast estimated a global profit of 50 trillion Won ($8.8 billion), which is Samsung's highest in three years. So what's driving their success? There may be a more practical reason behind the success of the S7 and S7 Edge that goes beyond the phone just being great. The company has enjoyed a wealth of success before and after releasing the S8. Image via Samsung If you recall, there was a time gap between the Samsung Note 7 being recalled and the release of the S8, which would explain why the S7 and S7 Edge sold so well. Essentially, consumers didn't really have much of a choice during that time if they wanted a Samsung device.Indeed, the Note 7 enjoyed huge initial success before shit hit the fan — or battery — in this case. So, the end of 2016 to March 2017 (which marked the release of the S8) was filled up with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge sales. After all, the Note 7 was a good phone, the issue was just the battery. And it's easier to make the switch from one Samsung device to another versus switching over to an iPhone. So it's natural that Samsung customers stuck with the devil they knew over the devil they don't.
And it looks like things are only going to get better for Samsung now that the S8 and the S8+ were released at the end of April. Last week, pre-sales were up by 30 percent in comparison to the Galaxy S7 pre-orders from 2016, according to Engadget.Well, they've certainly come a long way from those pesky exploding batteries. Judging by their sales so far, the only thing on fire right now is Samsung's ability to sell!Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Android Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+
