News: Yo! Flash Back to the '90s with Pasted's New Collage App
Here's another workday distraction for all you social media lovers out there: Pasted, launching out of beta today on iOS, is a simple collage and photo editing app mixing iconic '90s imagery with a love of the The Shins.Founded by Zeke Howard and Ben Fogarty of Spruced LLC, Pasted was inspired by an idea that James Mercer, Shins frontman, approached the cofounders with.Mercer, in a statement to TechCrunch, said he got the inspiration for Pasted when he was vacationing with family in Hawaii. He noticed that one of the owners of a local restaurant had made a collage on the wall of a bunch of photos of regulars. Thus, Mercer thought of creating a simple collage tool, and so Pasted came to fruition. Mercer is now a 50% partner in the company. The app is simple and easy to use. Pasted accesses your camera roll, where you can pick as many photos as you want to add to your collage. After choosing your photos, the app crops them into the shape it feels would work best. You can then adjust the size of each image by pressing down on it and zooming in or out, or you can double click to crop the photo yourself—no scissors or glue sticks needed!You can also add on different shapes and images by accessing the "Paste Packs" within the app. The Paste Packs contain free geometric shapes, "90's Vibes" images, Dead Alive images (based on The Shins), and a few other packs for $1.99.Once you've got everything organized, you can swipe up to change the background to one of eight different colors. You can also swipe right to adjust your collage's appearance using one of nine different filters.After creating your collage, you can save it to your camera roll or share it on social media. You can also check out the app's "Get Inspired" section where you can see other users' collages. That's really all there is to it. Howard noted to TechCrunch the need to keep the app simple for its success:I think the difference is in the gesture based interface. Where most everything out there is menu based and there are tutorials, ours we keep as simple as possible.According to TechCrunch, the company is looking to market the app to major artists to promote the overall simplicity of Pasted.Feel free to download the app for iOS here, which works on iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch running iOS 10 or later.
